Getting Started with Insurance Licensing
Navigating the licensing process doesn’t have to be difficult — especially with our team walking you through every step.
Whether you live in Georgia or another state, we’ll help you meet the requirements and get started quickly and confidently.
Understanding Insurance Licensing
An insurance producer license allows you to legally sell, solicit, or negotiate Life, Accident, and Sickness (Hospitalization) insurance products.
Every agent must hold a valid license in each state where they conduct business. This ensures compliance with state regulations and protects both the agent and the client.
Because The Weatherspoon Agency is headquartered in Georgia, any agent residing outside of Georgia is also required to obtain a Georgia non-resident license in addition to their home state license. This allows you to write and service business under our agency’s jurisdiction.
Types of Licenses
Resident License
A Resident License is for individuals applying in their primary state of residence.
To obtain one, you’ll need to:
-
Complete a state-approved pre-licensing course
-
Pass your state insurance licensing exam
Non-Resident License
A Non-Resident License allows licensed agents to conduct business in states where they are not residents — such as Georgia.
To obtain one, you’ll need to:
-
Submit a non-resident application through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR)
-
Provide proof of your resident license
How The Weatherspoon Agency Helps You Get Licensed
Starting a new career shouldn’t feel complicated — and with The Weatherspoon Agency, it isn’t.
We provide hands-on guidance through every step of the licensing process to ensure you’re fully prepared, properly registered, and positioned to begin earning as quickly as possible.
Here’s how we help:
✅ Step-by-step instructions for registering with your state’s Department of Insurance and NIPR
✅ Discounted access to our preferred licensing partner, XCEL Solutions, which provides your full pre-licensing and exam prep package
✅ Personal mentorship from our leadership team to walk you through application submissions, scheduling exams, and next steps
✅ Support with both resident and non-resident licensing, allowing you to begin conducting business under Georgia’s jurisdiction without delay
Once your license is approved, our team will help you complete the final step — getting you appointed with American Income Life and ready to begin your official onboarding and field training.
Georgia Residents: Temporary License Option
If you reside in Georgia, you may qualify for the Georgia Temporary License Program, which allows you to start training and working with our agency for up to 15 months while completing your permanent license.
This unique opportunity lets qualified Georgia residents begin earning and gaining real-world experience right away — with full support from our leadership team.
We’ll guide you through the entire process, including:
-
Submitting your temporary license application through the Georgia Department of Insurance
-
Assisting you with making the state application fee payment
-
Helping you complete your pre-licensing requirements.
-
Transitioning smoothly into your permanent life license within the 15 month period.
Out-of-State Applicants
If you live outside of Georgia — no worries, we’ve got you covered.
Our team will help you navigate your state’s licensing process from start to finish. We partner with XCEL Solutions, one of the nation’s leading licensing providers, to ensure you’re fully prepared to pass your state exam the first time.
Because our agency is headquartered in Georgia, out-of-state agents will also obtain a Georgia non-resident license once their home-state license is issued.
This allows all team members, regardless of location, to operate under the Weatherspoon Agency’s Georgia-based jurisdiction and serve families nationwide.
Every Permanent Licensing Package Includes Access to XCEL’s Proven 3-Part Training System
Part 1: Pre-Licensing Course
Fulfills all state pre-licensing education requirements and provides a solid foundation in insurance concepts. Includes bite-sized videos, review notes, and chapter quizzes to help you retain information efficiently.
Part 2: Prep Review Course
Unlocks after completing Part 1. This stage condenses the material to focus on the key areas most heavily weighted on your state exam — mirroring real exam content and structure.
Part 3: Exam Simulators
Includes three full-length, state-specific practice exams designed to match the real testing environment. Unlimited retakes help reinforce your knowledge and build confidence before test day.
All prospective agents who enroll through The Weatherspoon Agency receive a deeply discounted rate on the complete XCEL licensing package, ensuring you’re fully prepared and certified at the lowest possible cost.
The Licensing Timeline
Most new agents complete their pre-licensing education and pass their exam within 9–14 days, depending on their schedule and study pace. Once licensed, you’ll be officially appointed with American Income Life and begin your hands-on training with our team.
Bottom Line
At The Weatherspoon Agency, opportunity isn’t about what’s on your résumé — it’s about your drive, attitude, and willingness to learn.
If you’re coachable, motivated, and ready to take control of your financial future, we’ll give you the tools, mentorship, and proven system to build a lasting, successful career.
